Chronic pain does not need to be described for those people who live with it every day. It can be tiring just thinking about getting through each day while in pain, and emotionally upsetting thinking about the long term implications of pain. Reiki is a type of Energy Healing which has been shown to be very effective in balancing the body and helping release tension and stress around emotional, and some physical, disease. Reiki brings balance back to the body, and with it comes a new sense of calmness and an improvement in the flow of energy. It improves sleep patterns, reduces pain and these bring with it a brighter, fresher outlook on life.

 

Our Bodies

The way we hold ourselves in our bodies contributes towards our health. When we have emotional, spiritual or mental anguish, this can display itself not only in our thought processes and our behaviour, but in the way we hold ourselves. For example, sayings like “she gives me a pain in the neck” can actually translate to having an actual pain in your neck, when you see or hear anything to do with that person. Some people get lower back pain which can be mapped back to anger, throat pain or tightness across the shoulders can be mapped back to not speaking out about something important, severe headaches have been directly linked to worry or stress. If there has been severe trauma it can be held in the body in the muscles, internal organs, even at the cellular level (Rothschild, 2000).

 

Reiki helps the body release held issues, it allows the body to relax and open, and invites in a new balance and calm in its place. This alone can increase a person’s energy levels and decrease the levels of pain.
